Residents of Agunbiade Parakoyi Street, Sawmill area of Ilorin, Kwara State, were thrown into shock on Tuesday following the discovery of a lifeless body in their neighborhood.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), landlords and residents trooped to the scene, expressing concern over the identity of the deceased, who remains unknown.

Alhaji Abdulwahab Bello-Opeloyeru, Chairman of Ifesowapo Community and head of security in the area, said he and other residents heard a loud scream around 3:39 a.m. but were unable to step out due to safety concerns.

“We later saw the corpse on our way to observe the early morning prayer,” he said, adding that the man was suspected to have been returning from a nearby hotel when the incident occurred.

Bello-Opeloyeru also disclosed that the community had, just a day earlier, met to oppose the growing presence of hotels and alcohol joints in the area, warning they could trigger security challenges.

Police operatives from the ‘B’ Division, Surulere Area Command, later arrived and evacuated the body from the scene.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Command, Ejire Adetoun, were unsuccessful, as calls to her mobile phone were not answered at press time.
