POLICE ARREST FOUR-MAN GANG TERRORISING AWKA, RECOVER PHONES, TRICYCLES

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a four-man gang allegedly specialised in snatching tricycles and mobile phones along the Awka and Ifite axis, with students among their prime targets.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad carried out the operation in the early hours of Monday, August 25, 2025.
Recovered from the suspects were nine mobile phones, including an iPhone traced to one of their victims, a laptop, two tricycles with registration numbers LSD 464 QP and BLF 552 VH, four additional tricycle plate numbers, and a substance suspected to be a hard drug.
The suspects, identified as Nnaji Chidera (19), Chijioke Mmaduabuchi (21), Wisdom Ogbonna (19), and Afamefuna Egbe (20), reportedly confessed to being part of a syndicate that disguises its tricycles with multiple number plates while carrying out robberies.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their swift action and warned youths to desist from criminal activities, stressing that the Command remains resolute in ensuring offenders face the full weight of the law.
