The Kaduna State Police Command has denied reports alleging that its officers killed a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Abdurraheem Mustapha, in a traffic incident along Sultan Road near Garkuwa Hospital.

A media report published on Monday claimed that policemen, while driving against traffic, struck Mustapha on the head as he rode on a motorcycle. The victim’s brother, Sabiu Mustapha Abubakar, also alleged that the police attempted to cover up the incident by claiming the motorcycle collided with a car.

Eyewitnesses, however, insisted that bystanders had to compel officers to take the injured victim to a hospital.

Responding to the allegations, the police spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, explained that Mobile Police Force personnel were on escort duty on Friday when a motorcyclist riding at high speed rammed into their vehicle from behind.

Hassan confirmed that the passenger, later identified as Mustapha, became unconscious while the rider fled the scene. “The personnel, rather than abandoning the victim, promptly rushed him to the hospital for medical attention to save his life, reported themselves, and wrote a statement,” he said.

Despite medical intervention, Mustapha was later confirmed dead while receiving treatment. Hassan added that investigations have been launched and that the officers involved have been directed to report back to the station.

He urged the public to disregard what he described as “false and misleading information” circulating online and appealed to anyone with credible details about the incident to assist with the investigation.
