LAGOS COMMENCES SECOND PHASE OF OGUDU-IFAKO BRIDGE REPAIRS

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
The Lagos State Government has officially announced the commencement of the second phase of repair operations on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge (inbound Island), set to begin on Wednesday.
This information was revealed in a statement released on Tuesday, signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
The traffic advisory issued by the ministry outlines alternative routes for inbound drivers.
Vehicles en route to Oshodi from the Lagos Ibadan Expressway or Toll Gate may utilize the Ojota Slip Road to access Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony, near Taxi Park).
Motorists heading to Victoria Island can navigate via the Ojota Slip Road to Ikorodu Road (inward Anthony, near Town Planning Way), proceed to Gbagada, and then reach the Third Mainland Bridge towards Lagos Island.
Drivers originating from Ikeja and nearby areas can travel through Maryland to Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, subsequently using Eko Bridge to Outer Marina.
The commissioner clarified that these repair efforts are a consequence of a reassessment of the traffic management strategy to alleviate the congestion encountered during the initial phase of the project. “He urged motorists to collaborate with Traffic Management Officers, adhere to lane discipline, and utilize the designated alternative routes,” the statement partially read.
The commissioner stressed that the partial closure of the bridge is an essential component of the maintenance initiative.
Osiyemi remarked, “The partial closure of the bridge is an essential component of the maintenance initiative.
“Motorists are therefore encouraged to exercise patience and tolerate the temporary inconveniences in pursuit of enhanced road infrastructure. (Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure Office of Infrastructure)”
Osiyemi also urged motorists to plan their travels accordingly and work with officers present to minimize delays throughout the repair operations.
