The Osun State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Habeeb Adedayo and Akeem Fawas, over the killing of a commercial motorcyclist in Iwo.

Police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the suspects were apprehended in Ibafo, Ogun State, while attempting to sell the victim’s motorcycle.

The deceased, identified as 26-year-old Segun Olatunji, was allegedly lured by the suspects under the guise of being hired to transport them to a farm. According to police findings, Adedayo stabbed him in the neck and slit his throat after they reached a secluded spot.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to have posed as farmers and lured the deceased by employing his service to convey them from Odo-Ori area, Iwo, to their farmland along Olupon, Iwo, with an enticing sum of N5,000. After reaching a certain location, they asked him to stop, and Habeeb Adedayo stabbed him in the neck, dragged him from the motorcycle, and slit his throat,” the statement read.

The police confirmed that both suspects admitted to committing the crime.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Command’s Prompt Response Unit intercepted a golden Toyota Camry with registration number JZ 756 ABC at Unity Junction, Ikire, on August 29.

The driver reportedly fled after being asked to provide documents. Preliminary investigations later revealed that the vehicle had been stolen the same day at midnight in Owode-Ede.

Ojelabi said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect.
