LAGOS ROADS GRIDLOCKED AS FLASH FLOODS TAKE OVER

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
Motorists and inhabitants across Lagos on Tuesday found themselves ensnared in severe congestion following several hours of early morning precipitation that resulted in flash floods in significant areas of the metropolis. The inundation halted commercial and other business operations, while numerous vehicles malfunctioned on waterlogged thoroughfares, exacerbating the traffic predicament.
The regions most impacted included Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Alexander Way, Dolphin Estate, Lekki, and Obalende. Additional locations affected were Funsho Williams Avenue (formerly Western Avenue), Ikorodu Road, Agege, Ikeja, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Maryland, Oworonshoki, Oshodi, Apapa, and Alimosho, among others.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had previously forecasted extensive thunderstorms and rainfall across the nation from Monday to Wednesday.
In its meteorological summary released on Sunday, NiMet anticipated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall over portions of both the northern and southern states, including Lagos.

The agency advised residents to exercise safety measures, such as avoiding driving during intense rain, and also recommended that farmers refrain from applying fertilizers or pesticides immediately before rainfall to avert nutrient depletion.
