The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with cattle rustling and electricity vandalism, recovering stolen livestock and damaged property in separate operations across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Dutse, noting that the arrests followed intelligence-led operations across several local government areas.
According to the statement, two men allegedly broke into the residence of Alhaji Adamu Hussaini in Malam Madori LGA on August 27 and stole a bull valued at N800,000. One of the suspects, Usman Yusuf, was apprehended and the cow recovered, while his accomplice remains at large.
Similarly, on August 30, police operatives intercepted a Golf vehicle carrying two stolen cows along Baturiya–Hadejia Road. Two suspects, Isubu Adamu and Danladi Maikudi, were arrested, with one confessing to the theft.
On September 2, operatives intercepted Umaru Audu on the Kafin-Hausa route with two stolen cows, while another suspect, Ali Alhaji Buji, was arrested in connection with the theft of four cows and nine sheep from Taura township. Two of the stolen cows were recovered.
In a separate operation on September 3, police arrested Amadu Muhammad with vandalised high-tension electricity cables hidden in bags, allegedly being transported to Yobe State. His accomplice escaped and is currently being pursued.
Commending the efforts of police divisions and local vigilantes, the Commissioner of Police, Dahiru Muhammad, pledged sustained patrols, raids, and intelligence-driven operations to curb criminal activities.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.
Electricity vandalism and cattle rustling have long posed security and economic challenges in Jigawa and other northern states, often disrupting power supply and sparking farmer-herder conflicts.
