The Lagos State Police Command has provided fresh updates on the arrest of Engr. Chibuike Azubike, a 65-year-old man who falsely proclaimed himself the “Obi of Lagos” and announced plans to unveil a prototype of a N1.5 billion palace at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin, on September 13, 2025.

In a statement on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Bababeyi B. Oluseyi, said Azubike confessed during interrogation that he is not a qualified engineer as claimed but merely a supplier of construction materials. He allegedly paraded himself as an engineer to gain credibility.

Police investigations further revealed that the planned unveiling of the so-called “Obi of Lagos Palace” was a fraudulent scheme designed to deceive prominent individuals and unsuspecting Nigerians into parting with their money under false pretenses.

Authorities confirmed that Azubike acted alone and had no recognition or backing from any legitimate chieftaincy authority in Lagos. The police urged the public to disregard his claims and misleading social media publications intended to stir disaffection among Lagos residents.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, warned residents to remain vigilant against fraudsters and reassured Lagosians of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while upholding public order.

The suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
