The Kano State Government has commenced training for the first batch of 380 youths recruited as members of the newly established Special Anti-Phone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards.

The two-week intensive training, taking place at the Kano State Corporate Security Institute, Gabasawa, is part of renewed efforts to tackle rising phone snatching, thuggery, and related urban crimes across the state.

Director of Public Relations and Enlightenment, Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, Muhammad Idris, said the trainees represent the first batch of 600 volunteers to be recruited under the scheme.

“The training is designed to equip the youths with the skills and discipline needed to support security agencies in maintaining peace and order across the state,” Idris stated.

Commandant of the Institute, retired Captain Muhammad Bello Mai Gaskiya, explained that the programme would provide paramilitary training focused on phone snatching prevention, VIP protection, and defensive driving. It will also feature lectures from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), counselling sessions by Hisbah personnel, parade drills, and physical fitness training.

Mai Gaskiya urged participants to take the training seriously, noting that their role would be crucial in restoring order and security within communities in Kano metropolis.

Upon completion, the trainees are expected to be absorbed into the state government’s security framework and will receive a token monthly stipend.

A cross-section of participants expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity, pledging to serve with dedication and commitment to improving safety across the state.
