Afrobeats sensation Davido has been welcomed as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the institution responsible for the GRAMMY Awards.

By becoming a voting member, the Nigerian music producer will join a global network of music industry professionals tasked with deciding the accolades at the 2026 GRAMMY ceremony.

To announce his inclusion, the Recording Academy released a video featuring Davido alongside other members in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

The post stated, “Creating a song or an album takes heart, time, and dedication. ✨ That’s why Recording Academy members including #Davido, #ravynlenae, #offsetyrn, #jessiereyez, #zacbrownband, #anneakikomeyers, #miles.minnick, #mayaelizabethmusic, #damiensneed, #damarismusica, and #stewart_copeland are sharing why your participation matters.”

This development grants the “Feel” artist, who received three GRAMMY nominations in 2024, a vote in both the nomination and final ballot procedures of the Academy.

Reflecting on this significant achievement, Davido remarked: “Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the GRAMMY Award process. It is a game-changer. I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting.”

Davido’s accession aligns with a broader initiative by the Recording Academy to expand and diversify its membership, a movement that has seen an increase in representation from African artists and other international performers.

The Academy further noted that voting for the 2026 GRAMMY Awards will commence in under two weeks.

“Recording Academy voting members: review the ballot, listen, and start voting early, beginning October 3,” it concluded.
