The Nigeria Police Force Border Patrol Unit has intensified operations against cross-border crimes, recording significant breakthroughs in the fight against smuggling, trafficking, and other transnational offenses.
A major highlight was the interception of large consignments of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) being smuggled across Nigeria’s borders. At Gembu in Taraba State, operatives pursued fleeing smugglers, forcing them to abandon two fully loaded trucks of PMS. Similarly, three motorcycles carrying 43 jerrycans of fuel were intercepted along a bush path linking Nigeria with the Benin Republic.
In Adamawa State, police impounded a Toyota Starlet conveying 60 jerrycans of PMS towards Cameroon, while in Jibia, Katsina State, a motorcyclist smuggling PMS to Niger Republic abandoned his cargo and fled upon sighting patrol teams.
The Police said the clampdown also yielded results in the fight against human trafficking, arms smuggling, stolen vehicles, and illicit drugs, stressing that the operations were part of efforts to strengthen border security and curb economic sabotage.
