President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that Nigeria’s economy has “turned the corner” following the economic reforms introduced by his administration, assuring citizens that the benefits will soon be felt nationwide.

Speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the coronation of his long-time ally, Oba (Sen.) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, the President commended Nigerians for their patience, resilience, and support.

“Today, I am honoured to bring the cheering news that our economy has turned around and there is now light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu said, stressing that the reforms were only possible because of citizens’ sacrifices and endurance.

The President hailed Oba Ladoja’s political legacy, noting his resilience in overcoming an illegal impeachment during his tenure as Oyo State governor, and praised him as “one of the rare leaders in history to ascend the throne of his forefathers.”

Governor Seyi Makinde officially presented the new monarch with the staff of office and certificate, describing the coronation as historic. He noted that the event had resolved longstanding disputes among Ibadan royal families.

“All challenges associated with the Ibadan traditional institution are now over and put behind us. This means that the process is now sacrosanct,” Makinde said, while thanking the President for honouring the people with his presence.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja attributed his ascension to divine providence rather than influence or wealth. He pledged to uphold the trust reposed in him by the Olubadan-in-Council and thanked both Tinubu and Makinde for their roles in the historic occasion.

The coronation was attended by former and serving governors, traditional rulers, and dignitaries from across the country.
