ILUGUN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS BEAT TEACHERS, DESTROY PROPERTIES IN PROTEST OVER COLLEAGUE’S DEATH (VIDEOS)

Students of Ilugun High School, Abeokuta, on Monday, unleashed violence on their teachers and school property during a protest over the death of one of their colleagues.
A viral video circulating on social media showed groups of students hurling stones at classroom windows until the glass panes shattered. They were also seen pulling out aluminium window frames, leaving classrooms badly damaged. Another clip captured students dragging and assaulting a person alleged to be one of their teachers.
The unrest was reportedly sparked by the death of a student who drowned while attempting to evade operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, known as Amotekun. The student was said to have been roaming during school hours when he fled from security officials and jumped into a river, where he drowned.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians on social media expressing shock over the students’ violent conduct.
Reacting, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ogun State described the attack as “an unfortunate development” that undermines education and shows grave indiscipline.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Samson Popoola, the PCRC said: “The action of the students undermines the sanctity of education and constitutes a grave act of indiscipline and disrespect for constituted authority.”
Popoola commended the swift intervention of security agencies in restoring calm to the school premises. He also called on the Ogun State Ministry of Education to engage relevant stakeholders to address the root causes of student unrest through dialogue, counselling, and stricter disciplinary measures.
Normalcy has since been restored, though the videos of the attack continue to generate heated debate online about the rising wave of indiscipline in Nigerian schools.
