AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN INVITES AKPABIO TO PROJECT COMMISSIONING IN KOGI, SIGNALS END TO MONTHS-LONG RIFT

Tensions between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and Senate President Godswill Akpabio appear to have eased, as the Kogi lawmaker has extended a formal invitation to Akpabio to attend her project commissioning event in Ihima, Kogi State, scheduled for Sunday.
The event marks Akpoti-Uduaghan’s second year in the Senate, and her invitation also extended to fellow senators was personally signed and read aloud by the Senate President during Thursday’s plenary session.
“In marking my second-year anniversary as serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for projects commissioning in Kogi State,” the letter read.
The correspondence specified her residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene, Kogi State, as the meeting point, with guidance for visiting senators to use the Obajana Airstrip before proceeding by road to the venue.
In a brief remark after reading the letter, Akpabio congratulated her warmly, saying, “Congratulations in advance.”
The gesture is being interpreted as a significant step toward reconciliation following their public fallout earlier in the year. The pair clashed in February 2025 over seat re-allocation in the Senate — a dispute that culminated in Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension on March 6.
Since her reinstatement on September 24, the Kogi senator has gradually re-engaged in Senate proceedings and shown increased cooperation with Akpabio’s leadership. Her recent participation in debates, including contributions to the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025, has also signaled a steady return to legislative activity.
However, Thursday’s open invitation is widely viewed as the most direct gesture of rapprochement between the two senators potentially closing a contentious chapter that had previously strained relations within the Senate leadership.
