The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, has welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court nullifying the party’s November 2025 national convention and restraining Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and others from parading themselves as party officials.
The judgment, delivered on Friday by the Ibadan Division of the Federal High Court, voided the conduct, outcome and entire proceedings of the convention that produced the Turaki-led executive. The court further recognised the Mohammed-led Caretaker Working Committee as the legitimate leadership of the party.
Reacting to the ruling, the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Junguda Mohammed, described the decision as a victory for the rule of law, constitutionalism and internal party democracy.
“The National Caretaker Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has received with profound satisfaction the judgment delivered today by the Federal High Court, Oyo Division, which restrained Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and others from parading themselves as the National Working Committee of the PDP and unequivocally recognised the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led Caretaker Committee as the legitimate leadership of the party,” the statement said.
It added that the judgment, which nullified the purported convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, reaffirmed the party’s position that legitimacy can only be derived from strict adherence to the PDP Constitution, extant laws and valid court orders.
The Mohammed-led committee congratulated PDP members and supporters for their patience, resilience and faith in due process throughout the period of internal dispute.
The group also appealed to party members to remain calm, law-abiding and united as the party moves forward in the spirit of reconciliation and renewed commitment to its ideals.
“We appeal to all aggrieved members to sheath their swords, as this victory belongs to the entire PDP family. Our doors remain open for genuine reconciliation and integration,” the statement said.
The committee noted that the ruling would help strengthen unity, deepen internal cohesion and refocus collective efforts towards building a stronger and more formidable PDP, while commending the judiciary for discharging its constitutional responsibility as an impartial arbiter in political and constitutional disputes.
