The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has extended the deadline for employers to file their annual tax returns by one week, shifting it from February 1 to February 7.

The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the statutory deadline for filing employers’ annual tax returns is January 31 of every year.

According to Subair, the extension is aimed at giving employers additional time to complete and submit accurate returns.

He stressed that employers must prioritise the timely filing of their annual returns, adding that compliance should be embedded as a routine business practice.

The LIRS chairman reiterated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for submitting annual returns, as manual filings have been fully phased out.

“Employers are therefore required to file their returns exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal: https://etax.lirs.net,” he said.

Subair described the platform as secure, user-friendly and accessible 24/7.

He also advised employers to ensure that the TaxID (Tax Identification Number) of all employees is correctly captured in their submissions.

The chairman urged employers to visit any LIRS office for further enquiries or assistance, or contact the service through its website and other official channels.
