Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives representing Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abejide had earlier been expelled from the party by the David Mark-led faction during the party’s national convention held on April 14, 2026.

The legislator announced his resignation during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.

Speaking at the event, Abejide said he joined the ADC and helped build it into a nationally recognised political platform with representation at both national and state legislative levels. He noted that he personally financed the party’s structure during his time as national leader before handing over leadership responsibilities to the current national chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe. He also wished Gombe success in his ongoing legal battle.

Abejide explained that he chose to leave what he described as a fractured party structure in search of a stronger political platform capable of delivering greater benefits to his constituents.

His resignation follows the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise David Mark as ADC national chairman after a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the party’s leadership dispute.

According to Abejide, the internal crisis within the ADC prompted his legal advisers to recommend that he exit the party to protect his political future, a move he said he has now taken.

Although he did not reveal the political party he plans to join next, the lawmaker said the announcement would be made soon. He hinted that his next destination would become known once he officially obtains nomination forms.
