The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State on Tuesday confirmed the death of a middle-aged woman in a road accident at Iwo Road, near the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the FRSC, the crash involved four vehicles, including a red Micra car (registration number MNY 539 XN), a white tanker, a truck, and a commercial Toyota Hiace bus (registration number BBS 863 XA). Preliminary investigations indicate that brake failure caused one of the drivers to lose control, resulting in multiple collisions.
“The driver of one of the affected vehicles lost control, thereby resulting in multiple crashes. One of the victims, a woman, died on the spot, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital,” the FRSC report stated.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, particularly the Iwo-Ojoo axis in Oyo State, has been a hotspot for road accidents. Recent incidents along this corridor have involved both commercial and private vehicles, with causes ranging from brake failure to collisions between trucks and smaller cars, often leading to high casualties.
