The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has arrested a truck driver after his vehicle collided with a commercial bus, leaving three passengers injured at the Mosafejo–Aradagun area of the Lagos–Badagry Expressway.

It was learnt on Tuesday that the accident occurred when the driver of the articulated truck attempted to make an illegal U-turn at an unauthorised point on the expressway.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the spokesperson for LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, said the Dangote-branded truck rammed into an oncoming commercial Mazda bus with registration number FST 946 YK during the manoeuvre.

“The Lagos State Government has received with deep concern reports of a serious road traffic collision at Mosafejo–Aradagun, along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, involving a Dangote articulated truck and a commercial Mazda bus,” Taofiq said.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the truck driver, while attempting to execute an illegal U-turn, collided head-on with the oncoming commercial bus,” he added.

According to Taofiq, the impact of the collision left three male passengers with severe injuries, while the truck driver was immediately apprehended by LASTMA operatives at the scene.

He said emergency responders swiftly rescued the injured passengers and conveyed them to a General Hospital for urgent medical attention, with officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) providing support.

Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, wished the injured victims a speedy recovery and warned truck drivers and operators of heavy-duty vehicles against reckless driving.

“Reckless driving practices, including illegal U-turns, pose a grave threat to public safety and will not be tolerated under the state’s traffic management regime,” Giwa said.

He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive enforcement, strategic traffic control measures and sustained public enlightenment.

Meanwhile,it was earlier reported that six persons were killed and 23 others injured in a separate road crash along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway after a truck reportedly lost control due to speeding.
