The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has joined forces with the Rotary Club of Gbagada South and 11 other clubs within Rotary District 9112 to enhance literacy among public secondary school students.
The collaboration reached a high point on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, with the grand finale of the Rotary Annual Inter-Secondary Schools Quiz Competition, held at the Rotary Centre in Ikeja.
Ronke Matuluko, Deputy Director of Education and Desk Officer for Quiz, Debate, and Competitions, reaffirmed the state’s dedication to quality education during the event.
The initiative was supported by 11 additional clubs, including the Rotary Clubs of Lekki Golden, Victoria Island East, Mushin Metro, Victoria Island, Eko Heights, Falomo, Lagos Golden Heart, Dolphin Estate, Isheri North, Ikorodu Royale, and Eko Cosmopolitan.
Competing for the top spot, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education highlighted a stellar lineup of participating schools, including:
- Gaskiya Senior College
- Gbaja Girls Senior High School
- Ijeshatedo Senior Grammar School
- Okota District Senior College
- Oriwu Senior Model College
The Rotary Club’s District Governor, Lanre Adedoyin, said every member had a duty to lead and guide young people rightly.

President of the Rotary Club of Gbagada South, Adeniyi Adegbite, highlighted the competition as a vital platform for cultivating curiosity, discipline, teamwork, and leadership among students.
He emphasized that this initiative directly supports Rotary International’s focus on basic education and literacy, specifically aiming to boost learning outcomes for public school students.
