Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have rescued 14 abducted persons in Kogi State following sustained offensive operations against terrorists operating within forest enclaves around the Lokoja axis.

A credible military source told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja that the rescue followed a successful raid on Batijjo’s camp located in the Adonkolo/Kakanda Forest.

According to the source, the troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, overran the camp and forced the criminals to flee the area.

The operation also led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition, military and police camouflage, as well as documents, including a foreign passport, further degrading the terrorists’ operational capacity.

One of the rescued victims was identified as a serving soldier who was abducted while travelling from Abeokuta to Zaria. All rescued persons were stabilised by medical teams.

The source added that in a follow-up ambush at Tajimi, troops engaged a fleeing terrorist who abandoned his motorcycle before escaping. The motorcycle was recovered for intelligence purposes.

He also said troops swiftly responded to another kidnapping incident along the Okene–Onyukoko road, rescuing seven escapees, while search-and-rescue operations continue for other victims.

The source reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring security in Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
