TROOPS DESTROY TERROR HIDEOUTS, SECURE AJALI FOREST IN ENUGU

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Eastern Sanity have intensified operations across the South-East, dismantling strongholds linked to Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The Army stated that sustained offensives, driven by superior firepower, intelligence, and inter-agency collaboration, are steadily weakening the group’s structure and capacity to resist military action.
On April 14, 2026, troops from Sector 1, supported by the Air Component of Operation Udoka, carried out a targeted clearance mission in Ajali Forest, located in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. The operation forced IPOB/ESN fighters to retreat in disarray, abandoning key assets, including an anti-tank improvised explosive device (IED).
According to the Army, the failed deployment of the IED highlights the group’s desperation and declining operational strength. The device was later secured by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, preventing potential casualties among both civilians and security personnel.

Troops have since taken control of the area, continuing aggressive clearance efforts while systematically destroying terrorist hideouts. The use of chainsaws and bulldozers to demolish camps has left the fleeing fighters exposed and unable to regroup or mount resistance.
In a separate intelligence-led operation the same day, troops of the 82 Division Garrison stationed in Adani, Uzo-Uwani LGA, acting on credible intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS), intercepted ransom proceeds tied to a kidnapping ring.
The raid led to the arrest of a suspected kidnapper and the recovery of a pump-action rifle along with ₦2 million believed to be ransom money. The suspect and seized items have been handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation aimed at tracking down other members of the syndicate.
The Army noted that these operations have significantly weakened both the operational and financial capacity of IPOB/ESN, emphasizing that the group continues to lose ground, resources, and cohesion under sustained military pressure.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Nigerian Army assured citizens of its resolve to eliminate criminal and insurgent threats, urging continued public support as efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the South-East continue.
