KAYODE ADEBAYO: LIFE BEFORE THE FAME

By: Fasasi Hammad
My name is Kayode Adebayo. I am a film producer, actor, and location manager from Ido in Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
How did you find your place in the movie industry?
I would say it was a combination of talent and guidance. I was influenced and encouraged by my boss, Mr. Muyiwa Ademola, who actively worked to help me grow. While I had the potential, I had to navigate many challenges without distractions. Balancing location management with acting came with its hurdles, but I am grateful to see the ministry growing steadily.
Were there moments when you felt like giving up, or has it been smooth sailing?
At the start, I was very intimidated by the camera. As people say, the camera is like a witch (Aje). It was a unique and sometimes daunting experience. I faced numerous challenges—some days I cried, other days I laughed, and there were even times I went without food—but staying focused and prayerful kept me going. With perseverance and prayer, I overcame the obstacles.
How did you manage to overcome these challenges and reach where you are today?
It is only by the special grace of God that I have been able to maintain momentum and keep growing in the industry.
Were you involved in sports while growing up?
Yes, I played table tennis from a young age, and I still enjoy it today. Whenever I see people playing, I like to join in.
What drew you to table tennis?
I initially loved football, but my parents often interrupted me whenever I played. People would report me, and they’d come to drag me away to school. Over time, my interest in football faded. Table tennis, on the other hand, didn’t attract much attention, so I stuck with it. Even now, I prefer table tennis to watching football.
Do you see any similarities between actors and sportspeople?
Absolutely. Both are driven by passion and love for what they do, which keeps us going even before financial rewards come in. Additionally, both actors and sportspeople entertain audiences with their talents, drawing people to watch and cheer for them.
Do you still keep in touch with friends from before stardom? Has fame changed your relationships?
Not at all. I see life as normal. I treat everyone equally and rely on grace. Stardom hasn’t changed who I am.
Are you working on any projects currently?
Yes, I am currently working on a new project titled Arenibala (Connection).
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
In the next five years, I envision myself ruling the box office.
What advice do you have for young and aspiring actors?
I would tell them to stay focused, prayerful, and consistent without giving up. The sky is only the starting point if they remain dedicated. I continue to pray for unending happiness and unmerited favor, because with God, everything is possible.
