Suspected bandits on February 14 attacked communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing scores of residents, abducting several others and setting multiple houses ablaze, including a police outpost.

The first attack reportedly occurred in Tunga-Makeri in the early hours of Friday, where six residents were killed and several homes torched.

The assailants were said to have proceeded to Paso on Saturday after reportedly encountering little resistance, burning more houses and a police station.

An eyewitness, Mohammed Ibrahim, alleged that the attackers later moved to Pisa village to carry out further assaults.

“They moved to another village called Pisa again to carry out another operation. Seven people have been slaughtered by the bandits in Konkoso. This is how they destroyed the Pisa police outpost. So far, 26 deaths have been recorded in the Konkoso bandit attack,” he said.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed the raid but did not comment on the reported burning of the police station.

The command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, said a joint security team had been deployed to the area to assess the situation and rescue victims.

“On 14/2/2026 at about 6 a.m., a report was received indicating that at about 3 a.m., suspected bandits invaded Tunga-Makeri village via Shafachi district, Borgu LGA. During the attack, six people lost their lives,” Abiodun said.

“Some houses were also set ablaze, and a yet-to-be ascertained number of persons were abducted, as the terrorists were also reported to have moved to Konkoso village. Other details are still sketchy.”

Security agencies are continuing operations in the affected communities to restore calm, secure residents and facilitate the rescue of abducted persons.
