The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has appealed to members of the public to help locate a TikTok user who alleged that she was raped in her apartment by a stranger.
The agency made the appeal in a statement posted on its official social media platforms on Tuesday, confirming that efforts are underway to reach the survivor and provide necessary support services.
The development follows a viral video shared by the user, identified as Mirabel (@mirab351 on TikTok), who alleged that the assault occurred on Sunday, February 15.
According to her post, she had been battling insomnia and consumed alcohol around 6 a.m. in a bid to fall asleep before later hearing knocks on her door at about 9 a.m. She subsequently alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a stranger inside her apartment.
The video has sparked widespread reactions online, with the hashtag #StopRapingWomen trending on X, formerly known as Twitter. Thousands of users have called for urgent action to address sexual violence and strengthen protection for survivors.
The agency urged anyone with useful information that could help locate the survivor to come forward, stressing the importance of ensuring her safety, access to medical care, psychosocial support and justice.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the alleged incident as efforts continue to verify the claims and reach the individual involved.
