POLICE FOIL BANDITS’ ATTACK IN OKE OGUN, NEUTRALISE TWO SUSPECTS

The Oyo State Police Command on Tuesday said it foiled a planned attack by suspected bandits on Irawo town in the Oke Ogun axis of the state, neutralising two suspects during a gun duel with security operatives and local hunters.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement, describing the operation as “a remarkable display of operational prowess, proactive policing strategy, and intelligence-driven crime prevention.”
According to him, the breakthrough followed credible information from a good Samaritan alerting authorities to the presence of about 10 armed men who had concealed themselves at a farm settlement in Elebe Village, Aleniboro, via Irawo Mine, allegedly planning to attack the community under the cover of darkness.
The suspects were reportedly armed with two AK-47 rifles, single-barrel guns and cut-to-size locally made pistols, and were said to have openly discussed plans to unleash violence on the village.
Olayinka stated that upon receiving the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer of Tede Division promptly informed the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who directed the immediate deployment of additional operational assets.
Police operatives, in collaboration with members of the Agbekoya/local hunters in Aleniboro, mobilised to the hideout. The suspected bandits allegedly opened fire on sighting the security team, leading to a gun battle. Two of the suspects were killed in the exchange, while others reportedly fled with possible gunshot wounds.
The Command said reinforcements have been deployed to restore calm, while intensive bush combing and surveillance operations continue to track down the fleeing suspects.
Items recovered at the scene included one cut-to-size locally made pistol, one empty cartridge, two live cartridges, two expended 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition shells, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, two Tecno button phones, and a bottle containing a substance believed to be a mixed drink.
Police assured residents that the area has been secured and urged members of the public to sustain cooperation with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
The Command emphasised that community support remains critical in the fight against criminality and encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation.
