The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State conducted a peaceful congress across all 18 local government areas of the state over the weekend, resulting in the election of new party leadership in each council.
The exercise was supervised by a committee from the party’s national secretariat.
Speaking at St Mary Mega Primary School, Oke Oka, in Akoko Local Government, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and SUBEB Chairman, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, described the congress as smooth and orderly. He explained that the new leaders were affirmed through a consensus process, which helped avoid disputes and strengthened the party’s structure.
“It was peaceful; there is no problem. All our party members and the electoral officials were present. We have affirmed all newly elected local government officials. The idea behind affirmation is to make the exercise less rancorous,” Olabimtan said.
Similarly, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Abiola Olawoye, confirmed that the congress in Ondo East was conducted peacefully. He emphasized that the process reflects unity and progress within the party and sets a strong foundation for the 2027 general elections.
Dr. Seun Osamaye, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, praised the smooth and fair process in Ifedore Local Government, describing it as consensus-driven and free of rancor. She commended the leadership of Governor Dr. Rotimi Akeredolu, noting that the process reinforced support for the elected local government officers and reduced the likelihood of petitions.
In Akure South Local Government, Chairman Dr. Gbenga Fashua echoed the positive assessments, saying the congress was calm, orderly, and highly successful. He noted strong participation and praised the oversight by national party delegates.
Overall, the congress across Ondo State was widely regarded as peaceful, fair, and a demonstration of party unity.
