CHELSEA, ASTON VILLA SUFFER BLOW IN BATTLE FOR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SPOTS

Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League suffered a setback as Burnley salvaged a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, while Aston Villa also rescued a late point against Leeds on Saturday.
The Blues remain in the Premier League’s top four only on goal difference after failing to capitalize on Joao Pedro’s early fourth-minute opener. Chelsea controlled much of the game until Wesley Fofana was sent off in the 72nd minute after receiving a second yellow card.
Burnley took advantage in stoppage time, with Zian Flemming heading in from a corner in the 93rd minute, keeping their slim survival hopes alive. The Clarets now sit just eight points from safety.
Aston Villa, who had been keeping pace with Arsenal and Manchester City in the title race until recent weeks, continued their poor run at Villa Park with a 1-1 draw. Leeds took the lead through Anton Stach’s stunning 40-yard free-kick, which beat Emi Martinez at the near post.
Despite Leeds’ strong form—losing only twice in their last 16 games—Tammy Abraham struck two minutes from time to earn Villa a crucial point.
Five Premier League clubs are set to qualify for next season’s Champions League, reflecting the strong performance of English sides in European competitions this season. Liverpool and Manchester United still have opportunities to close in when they face Nottingham Forest and Everton in upcoming fixtures.
In other Premier League action, James Milner set a record of 654 appearances as Brighton defeated Brentford 2-0, ending a seven-game winless run. Diego Gomez opened the scoring, followed by Danny Welbeck’s goal before half-time, easing pressure on Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler.
Manchester City can reduce the gap to leaders Arsenal to two points when they host Newcastle on Saturday at 20:00 GMT. Arsenal, meanwhile, will face north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, hoping to maintain their advantage in the title race.
