Chelsea can no longer finish in the Premier League top five after a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday afternoon.

The Blues were aiming to end a five-match losing streak against the relegation-threatened side but fell behind early. Nottingham Forest struck twice in the first half to take control of the game.

Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring with a powerful header inside two minutes, before winning a penalty that Igor Jesus converted to double the lead past Robert Sánchez.

Chelsea had a chance to respond from the spot, but Cole Palmer saw his penalty saved by Matt Sels.

Awoniyi later grabbed his second goal from a Morgan Gibbs-White assist, finishing off a cutback, while João Pedro pulled one back for Chelsea.

The result leaves Chelsea on 48 points, 20 behind fifth-placed Aston Villa with just three games remaining, ending their hopes of a top-five finish.
