The Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress on Monday held its state congress in Asaba, inaugurating a new set of executives as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future elections.
The congress, which took place at Orchid Hotel, drew a large turnout of party members, leaders, and stakeholders from across the state.
Speaking after his inauguration, the state chairman, Chief Angiamaowei Richman Oyindoubra, said the successful conduct of the congress marked a turning point for the party and signalled its readiness to offer credible leadership to Nigerians.
He expressed concern over the country’s worsening economic situation, noting that rising costs of goods and services had placed significant strain on citizens.
Oyindoubra said the party was committed to addressing key national challenges, particularly in the areas of economic recovery and security, while prioritising the welfare of the people.
“The people will give us the mandate, and we will stand by them to address the economic and security challenges facing the country,” he said.
He added that the party would intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter sensitisation in preparation for upcoming elections.
Also speaking, a party leader and former governorship aspirant, Ken Pela, described the NDC as a credible alternative for Nigerians seeking change, citing its clear vision and commitment to service.
Pela, who recently defected from the African Democratic Congress, commended the party’s national leadership for providing direction and sustaining the platform.
He said recent developments within the party, including the entry of notable political figures, reflected growing confidence in its vision and signalled a realignment of political values.
According to him, the congress was not merely about filling positions but about redefining leadership and governance in Delta State.
“We are not here to continue politics as usual. We are here to reset the system and build a Delta State anchored on integrity, unity, and shared prosperity,” he said.
He added that the party remained focused on promoting accountability in governance and expanding opportunities for citizens.
Highlights of the event included the inauguration of key party officials, among them Ossai Sylvanus as Deputy Chairman, Aaron Udoka Ekeamaka as Vice Chairman, McCollins Nwose as Publicity Secretary, and Genevieve Emeremgini as Women Leader, alongside other executive members.
The congress forms part of the party’s broader strategy to consolidate its presence and expand its support base in Delta State ahead of forthcoming political activities.
