The Lagos State Government has announced a new traffic management plan to accommodate the ongoing reconstruction of the main carriageway between Super Bus-Stop and Ilepo Bus-Stop (Inbound Lagos) along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

This initiative, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works, is scheduled to take place from Saturday, 7th March 2026, to Saturday, 30th May 2026, over a 12-week period.

In a statement released on Sunday, signed by Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation confirmed that the section of the expressway heading inbound to Lagos will be fully closed during the reconstruction phase.

To ease traffic flow, alternative routes have been provided for motorists:

For Lagos-bound traffic:

  • Option 1: Motorists coming from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate to Lagos/Oshodi can divert to the BRT Corridor at Super Bus-Stop and exit at Pleasure Bus-Stop (Ilepo) to continue their journey.
  • Option 2: Drivers can take Ekoro Road, proceed via Old Otta Road and Alira Street, linking Abeokuta Street to Pleasure Bus-Stop.
  • Option 3: An additional route is available through Abule Egba Underbridge to Agege, allowing drivers to reach their destination.

To manage breakdowns effectively, emergency tow vehicles will be stationed along the BRT corridor to assist stranded vehicles promptly.

The Ministry of Transportation has urged motorists to be patient, follow traffic signs, and cooperate with traffic officials stationed along the route to ensure the smooth and safe completion of the reconstruction, which aims to improve driving conditions along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
