Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe is set for further evaluations on a knee injury but will not undergo surgery at this stage.

The 27-year-old has been managing an external ligament injury in his left knee since late 2025. He missed last week’s Champions League play-off second leg against Benfica and has traveled to Paris for additional tests.

Mbappe is also expected to miss Real Madrid’s La Liga match against Getafe on Monday, and his availability for the Round of 16 UEFA Champions League clash with Manchester City next week remains uncertain.

A statement from Mbappe’s representatives said he is in Paris with Real Madrid’s medical team:

“In agreement with the club, he is undergoing further tests on his knee to optimise follow-up care and prepare for his return. No surgical intervention is planned at the moment.”

Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa confirmed that the decision to give Mbappe time to fully recover was mutual.

“It was a consensus between everyone. We think the best approach is for him to pause, recover, and return at 100%. It won’t be a matter of days; it will take a bit longer, but hopefully not too long,” Arbeloa said.

Mbappe joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in June 2024 after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. He has scored 38 goals in 33 appearances for the club this season.
