The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, Jamil Magayaki, has resigned from the party and officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement to journalists on Thursday, Magayaki said his decision was influenced by the current political developments in the state.

This follows the recent defection of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, who on Monday left the PDP for the APC. The governor’s move came after extensive consultations with key political stakeholders, party leaders, elders, and supporters across the state.

The statement reads: “I, Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, Zamfara State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, hereby officially announce my defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“My decision to join the APC is driven by the current political landscape in Zamfara State, which calls for alignment with a party better equipped to tackle issues of security, development, and governance for the benefit of our people,” Magayaki said.

The Media reports that his defection comes amid a series of political realignments in Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Earlier in March 2026, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), following consultations with political stakeholders across the state.

The governor cited internal crises within the PDP and the need for stronger political collaboration to tackle security and development challenges in Zamfara.

In recent months, the PDP in the state has also experienced a series of defections, including lawmakers from the Zamfara State House of Assembly and thousands of party members who have joined the APC, highlighting significant shifts in the state’s political landscape.
