UK-BASED NIGERIAN FACES SENTENCING FOR RAPE IN WREXHAM

A United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Gift Oladele, has been convicted of raping a 19-year-old woman and is scheduled for sentencing in April after pleading guilty to the offence.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, the incident occurred in September 2025 near Wrexham, where the 24-year-old reportedly dragged the victim into a wooded area as she walked home from a night out before assaulting her.
The report stated that after the attack, Oladele allegedly told the victim, “This will teach you a lesson not to trust strangers.” He was convicted last week and is expected to face a lengthy prison sentence.
Further details revealed that Oladele had previously served a two-year prison term in 2022 for falsely imprisoning a woman in Manchester. Following that conviction, the UK Home Office ordered his deportation in 2023. However, the order was later overturned by an immigration tribunal after he successfully appealed on the grounds of his right to family and private life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
A sentencing judge reportedly described him as a “devious and manipulative” offender.
The case has drawn attention to broader concerns around deportation appeals and public safety in the UK.
In a related development, another Nigerian in the UK, Chiemeka Okoronta, was reported in November 2025 to be facing deportation after being sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for raping a teenage girl in West Yorkshire. The incident, reported by the BBC, occurred after the victim became stranded on a bus in Morley, Leeds, while trying to return to Bradford.
