Four people lost their lives in a road accident that occurred around 11 p.m. on monday at the ijebu-imushin axis of the ijebu ode–ore expressway in ogun state.

the crash, reportedly caused by overspeeding, involved a white toyota hiace bus with registration number bdj 482 xc and a blue man diesel truck owned by julius berger nigeria plc.

the ogun state spokesperson for the federal road safety corps, afolabi odunsi-oyewole, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists on tuesday.

according to him, the accident happened at approximately 11:16 p.m. on monday.

he stated that a white toyota hiace bus with registration number bdj482xc collided with a blue man diesel truck, registration number rsh969xc, belonging to julius berger, at the ijebu-imushin axis of the ijebu ode–ore expressway.

he added that all four occupants of the bus—two adult males and two adult females—suffered fatal injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene, with no survivors or additional injuries recorded.

odunsi-oyewole noted that preliminary findings indicated that overspeeding was the cause of the crash.

he explained that the truck was under tow when the towing chain suddenly broke, causing the vehicle to come to a stop on the road.

“the speeding toyota hiace bus then crashed into the stationary truck. after the collision, the driver of the towing vehicle fled the scene, abandoning the truck,” he added.

the frsc spokesperson noted that rescue teams arrived at the scene within eight minutes after receiving the distress call.

he further said the bodies of the victims had been evacuated and taken to the state hospital mortuary in ijebu ode.

odunsi-oyewole added that officers of the nigeria police force from the imushin division had taken custody of the vehicles involved and begun further investigation.

meanwhile, the ogun state sector commander of the frsc, akinwunmi fasakin, urged motorists to obey speed limits, especially during night travel, and ensure towing equipment meets safety standards to prevent avoidable accidents.

on march 2, one person died while three others were injured in a road accident at aiyetoro junction in the epe area of lagos state.

the accident involved a truck carrying yams and a commercial tricycle.

the crash happened when the truck reportedly lost control while trying to make a u-turn, resulting in a collision with the tricycle.
