TURKEY, EGYPT, PAKISTAN LEAD EFFORTS TO BROKER US-IRAN TRUCE

Turkey, Egypt, and Pakistan are leading efforts to help reach a peace agreement between the United States and Iran as the war approaches its fourth week.
According to US and foreign officials, The Washington Post reported that these Middle Eastern countries are acting as middlemen in discussions between Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy, and Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian foreign affairs minister.
According to the report, the countries were involved in a flurry of phone calls over the weekend through Tuesday, appealing to both sides to end the war.
Oman is also believed to be involved in the talks. The country had previously led nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US before the war broke out while discussions were still being held.
A CNN report noted that Pakistan has offered to host any negotiations, with sources saying there is a proposal for Islamabad to host a meeting between the US and Iran later this week, which Vice President JD Vance could attend.
CNN quoted two regional sources as saying that the US had shared a 15-point list of expectations for Iran via Pakistan, but it was unclear whether Tehran had agreed to any of the terms.
Diplomatic efforts were said to have intensified after President Donald Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face the destruction of its energy infrastructure.
Iran responded by threatening to “completely close” the waterway and destroy companies with US links.
Trump later suspended the strikes, citing “productive” talks with Iran, a claim Tehran has countered.
Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Erdogan said on Tuesday that his country would continue working with all its resources to establish peace in the US-Israel war on Iran, which he said had affected the Turkish economy and the whole world.
Erdogan also said Turkey is considering various measures to protect the economy from the war, which has engulfed the region and sent energy prices soaring.
