CP TIJANI FATAI ASSUMES DUTY AS 42ND LAGOS COMMISSIONER OF POLICE

The Lagos State Police Command has announced that Tijani Fatai has assumed duty as the 42nd Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, taking over from Olohundare Jimoh, who served as the 41st Commissioner of the Command from February 18, 2025, to March 26, 2026.

The Lagos State Police Command disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the new commissioner brings decades of policing experience and leadership to the role.

CP Fatai, who hails from Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege between 1979 and 1984. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.

He enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on June 10, 1994, and has served in various strategic positions across the country.

Until his recent posting, he served as Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port, Port Harcourt.

He also held positions as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Maritime Force Headquarters Annex Lagos and Lagos State Command Headquarters, Ikeja.

His previous roles include Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos; Area Commander in Ilaro, Ogun State; Maiduguri Metro, Borno State; Area C, Surulere, Lagos State; Squadron Commander, 5 PMF, Benin, Edo State, and 17 PMF, Akure; as well as Officer-in-Charge, Homicide Section, State Criminal Investigation Department, Lagos.

He also served as Divisional Police Officer in Ogere, Ogun State, and in Ijanikin and Alakara areas of Lagos State. He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

The Command noted that his track record of leadership, professionalism, and dedication to duty underscores his preparedness to steer the affairs of the Lagos State Police Command effectively.

The new Commissioner of Police reassured stakeholders and residents of his commitment to consolidating ongoing reforms, enhancing internal security, strengthening inter-agency collaboration and community partnerships, as well as advancing the mandate of protecting lives and property in line with global best practices.

The Lagos State Police Command called for continued support and cooperation from the public as the new leadership seeks to deepen professionalism, discipline and service delivery.
