Troops of the Nigerian military have arrested several suspected terrorist informants, logistics suppliers, and foreign illegal miners during coordinated operations across the North-East and North-Central regions.

The Director of Defence Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the missions were conducted under Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Savannah Shield, driven by enhanced intelligence-led strategies.

According to the military, a suspected terrorist informant was apprehended in Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, with links to a previous attack in Ngoshe, Borno State, where insurgents reportedly killed several persons, abducted over 100 women and children, and destroyed property earlier in March.

On March 20, troops arrested another suspected spy near the K10 guard post in Maiduguri, recovering items including a mobile phone, power bank, wristwatch, bracelet, and cash. The same day, a suspected arms dealer was apprehended in Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State following intelligence on an arms transaction.

Troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle and an empty magazine along the Maiduguri–Gubio Road on March 22 after a suspected logistics supplier fled upon sighting security operatives.

In Kwara State, terrorists attacked the Ora-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area on March 22, abducting nine worshippers during a church service. Security forces, working with local vigilantes and forest guards, have rescued three victims, while efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining hostages.

Meanwhile, along the Wawa–Dabar Woko Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, troops arrested a suspect conveying explosives and improvised explosive device (IED) materials, who claimed the items were meant for mining activities.

Further operations led to the discovery of an illegal mining site at Luma Village in Borgu LGA, where seven suspects, including four foreign nationals from the Niger Republic, were arrested. All suspects have been moved to the Wawa Cantonment for further investigation.

The military also reported that terrorists destroyed a bridge along the Wawa–Luma Road in an attempt to disrupt supply routes, while an IED discovered along the Wawa–Babanna Road on March 25 was successfully detonated by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.

Additionally, troops arrested six suspected terrorists during a stop-and-search operation in Oke Onigbin, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, recovering a locally made pistol, ammunition, cutlasses, and charms.

The arrests come amid intensified offensives by the Defence Headquarters targeting insurgent networks, logistics chains, kidnapping syndicates, and illegal activities believed to be fuelling insecurity across affected regions.
