The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has urged unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the upcoming local government polls.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, Idahosa made the call during the unveiling of the party’s candidate in Iguobazuwa, Ovia South West Local Government Area.
He praised the party leadership for zoning the chairmanship ticket to Udo Ward, noting that the decision has helped avert potential crises and promoted fairness, equity, peace, and cohesion within the party.

Idahosa also commended the people of Ovia South West for their commitment to internal democracy, highlighting that Udo Ward has never previously produced a council chairman.
“We, the leadership of the Ovia South West chapter of the APC, deliberated extensively and held several meetings before presenting our preferred candidate today,” he said.
He added that the party’s candidate, Osarobo Anthony, is a native of Udo Community and is well aware of the challenges facing residents.
“Being a young, well-educated individual, he has the support of most youths. He is competent, loyal to the party, and committed to its values and principles. We, the leadership of Ovia South West APC, are very confident in him,” Idahosa stated.
He further noted that the selection of councillorship nominees across all 10 wards was smooth, appealing to dissenting members to respect the decision of the majority.
The local government chairman of the APC, Emmanuel Ogbomo, also called for unity among members ahead of the elections.
In line with the Electoral Act 2022 and Edo State electoral laws, the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission has scheduled the local government elections for July 11, 2026. Its chairman, Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, affirmed the commission’s readiness to conduct free, fair, and credible elections.
