Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has terminated the employment of Malam Ahmed over alleged involvement in the illegal mobilisation of unqualified students for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The decision was made during the university’s 176th Governing Council meeting on April 1, 2026, according to a special bulletin released by the institution.
Ahmed, who previously worked in the Registry Department, was found guilty of misconduct related to the unauthorised uploading of names of ineligible candidates for NYSC mobilisation.

Confirming the action, the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Ismaila Mohammed Yauri, said in a statement on Friday that the dismissal demonstrates the institution’s firm commitment to combating misconduct.
“The Governing Council approved the dismissal of Malam Garba Ahmed after he was found guilty of illegally uploading unqualified students for NYSC mobilisation,” Yauri said.
He added that the dismissal takes immediate effect from the date of the council’s decision, stressing that the university enforces a zero-tolerance policy for serious or gross misconduct and that due process was followed in this case.
This development underscores ongoing concerns within Nigeria’s higher education sector regarding irregularities in student records and NYSC mobilisation processes. The university reaffirmed its dedication to transparency and warned that any staff involved in similar misconduct will face strict disciplinary action.
