ENUGU EMERGE OVERALL WINNERS OF 2026 NATIONAL PARA GAMES

The third edition of the National Para Games came to an end on Friday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium velodrome, with Enugu State emerging as the overall winner, the media reports.
Enugu topped the medal table with an impressive haul of 40 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Bayelsa State finished second with 25 gold, 30 silver, and 34 bronze, while Edo State secured third place with 25 gold, 14 silver, and 12 bronze medals.
Rivers and Lagos States rounded out the top five, placing fourth and fifth respectively. Rivers recorded 21 gold, 21 silver, and 17 bronze medals, while Lagos secured 20 gold, 23 silver, and 20 bronze.

The 2026 Games concluded with a colourful closing ceremony that celebrated sportsmanship and inclusivity, attended by several top government officials. The Wife of the Vice President, Nana Kashim-Shetima, represented First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at the event.
Other dignitaries present included the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad; Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Abdullahi; and the Wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fatima Abbas.
In her remarks, the First Lady praised the athletes for their determination and resilience, noting that all participants were worthy of recognition regardless of medal outcomes. She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting para athletes and expanding opportunities for them to thrive.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, echoed this commitment, assuring continued investment in the development of para sports and commending the President for prioritising sports in the national agenda.
