The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has welcomed the passage of the Electoral Act 2026, commending President Bola Tinubu for promptly signing the bill into law.

The party said the new law would enhance clarity in the electoral process and boost the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a communiqué issued after its meeting at the party’s South-East Regional Secretariat in Awka on Friday, the NWC praised key provisions in the Act, particularly those relating to party primaries and the digitisation of membership records, describing them as aligned with global standards and supportive of internal democracy.

The committee, however, expressed concern over the rising insecurity across the country, which has resulted in loss of lives and property, and urged the President to intensify efforts to address the situation.

APGA also called on members and prospective members to take advantage of its ongoing electronic membership revalidation and registration exercise to join the party.

The party congratulated Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on his second-term inauguration, attributing his re-election to his developmental achievements. It encouraged him to continue delivering on his promises to transform the state into a thriving and modern hub.

Addressing internal matters, the NWC approved the dissolution of the FCT chapter’s executive committees at all levels, with plans to set up a caretaker committee in line with party rules.

As part of preparations for the 2027 elections, the committee also endorsed the organisation of stakeholder summits across the six geopolitical zones and ratified the timetable and guidelines for the party’s 2026 primaries.

The NWC further commended security agencies, including the police and the military, for their efforts in tackling insecurity, especially in northern Nigeria.

It also praised the Senate leadership for upholding democratic principles in relation to the alleged defection of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, urging the Senate to take constitutional action by declaring his seat vacant.

Finally, the party called on its members to maintain discipline and adhere strictly to its constitution, warning that misconduct during the primaries would attract sanctions.
