Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged President Bola Tinubu to take firm and practical steps to curb the escalating attacks across Nigeria, stressing the need for action beyond rhetoric to safeguard lives.

In a statement shared Monday via his official X handle, Atiku reacted to recent violence in Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kaduna states. He referenced Tinubu’s earlier assurance that the Angwan Rukuba attack in Plateau would not recur, noting with concern that another deadly incident followed shortly after.

He criticised the situation, pointing out that within 72 hours of the President’s pledge, fresh violence in Benue State had reportedly claimed over a dozen lives, casting doubt on the government’s commitment.

Atiku also expressed alarm over reports from Nasarawa, where families were said to have fled their homes on foot due to looming threats, and decried a new wave of attacks in Kaduna over the weekend.

Emphasising that the foremost duty of any government is to protect lives and property while ensuring citizens’ welfare, Atiku called on the President to rise to the demands of leadership.

He urged Tinubu to move beyond statements and take decisive action, adding that the time had come to confront the security challenges head-on.

The former Vice President also extended condolences to families affected by the attacks, offering prayers for those who lost loved ones.
