A 37-year-old man, Opeyemi Olaniyan, has been arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing Ayomide Oyekunle during a fight at a beer parlour in the Agbado area of Ifo Local Government, Ogun State.

The suspect reportedly attacked the victim on the hand and stomach with a broken bottle during an altercation over a N25,000 debt.

Oyekunle was rushed to Strong Tower Hospital, Giwa Oke Aro, for treatment but died while receiving medical attention.

Confirming the incident to Hotjist on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi said the case was reported to the command by the debtor.

Babaseyi added that Olaniyan has been arrested, and the deceased’s body has been taken to Life Channel Morgue, Olambe, for autopsy.

He explained, “On Saturday at about 11:30 p.m., Oriade Kehinde reported at Agbado Division that while at his beer parlour, Opeyemi Olaniyan, aged 37, came to demand N25,000 owed to him since last year.

“When the suspect did not receive an immediate response, he became violent, broke a bottle, and threatened to stab anyone present.”

“In an attempt to stop him from entering the bar, the suspect allegedly used a broken bottle to stab 27-year-old Ayomide Oyekunle on the hand and stomach.

“The victim was immediately taken to Strong Tower Hospital, Giwa Oke Aro, for medical care but later died while undergoing treatment. The suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody pending investigation,” Babaseyi stated.

He further revealed that the case will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and potential prosecution.
