TINUBU FACES CRITICISM FOR MISSING KEY PROJECT OPENINGS IN LAGOS

The media team of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his alleged absence from key project inaugurations during his recent visit to Lagos.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the team accused the President of failing to personally attend several high-profile events scheduled as part of his official itinerary.
The statement described the development as “troubling and unacceptable,” alleging a growing pattern of absentee leadership and questioning the President’s commitment to his responsibilities.
The Atiku camp specifically pointed to the commissioning of the Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge and the inauguration of a Multi-Agency Complex, both of which were delegated to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

It argued that the President’s absence from these events raises concerns about accountability and engagement, particularly at a time of pressing national challenges, including insecurity.
The statement also referenced Tinubu’s recent visit to Plateau State, describing it as “brief” and suggesting it did not reflect the gravity of the situation following a deadly attack.
According to the media team, the President’s explanation that he travelled to Lagos for official duties appears inconsistent with his limited public appearances since arrival, claiming he has largely remained out of sight during the visit.
While acknowledging his attendance at the commissioning of the Iperu Airport in Ogun State, the statement maintained that his overall level of engagement fell short of expectations.
The Atiku camp further criticised what it described as a reliance on delegation, warning that such a leadership approach could signal a disconnect from governance demands.
It urged the President to demonstrate greater visibility and responsiveness, stressing that leadership requires active presence and accountability.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the President on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare, had earlier defended the President’s absence, stating that he was engaged in critical security briefings.
Speaking during a television interview, Dare explained that ongoing security developments across parts of the country required the President’s attention, adding that Tinubu has remained actively involved in state matters despite limited public appearances.
