USMAN JIBRIN TAKES OVER AS 34TH YOBE POLICE COMMISSIONER

The Yobe State Police Command has announced the official assumption of duty of a new Commissioner of Police, Usman Jibrin, who has taken over leadership of the command.

Jibrin becomes the 34th Commissioner of Police in the state, succeeding Emmanuel Ado, who was recently promoted and redeployed within the Nigeria Police Force.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.

According to the statement, Jibrin officially assumed duty on April 9, 2026, and is expected to oversee policing operations across Yobe State.

A native of Illela Local Government Area in Sokoto State, the new police chief holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Bayero University, Kano, obtained in 1991, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 2016.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and has served for more than three decades in various operational, investigative, and administrative capacities.

Over the course of his career, he has held several key positions, including Divisional Crime Officer, Divisional Police Officer, Tactical Commander in Delta State, and Area Commander in Ozoro, Onitsha, and Aba.

He also served as Commander of the Inspector-General of Police Special Taskforce on Pipeline Vandalism, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department in Kaduna, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Rivers State.

Other postings include Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration at the Force CID in Abuja, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Zone 8, covering Kogi and Kwara States.

Before his redeployment to Yobe, Jibrin served at the Force Headquarters in Abuja as Commissioner of Police in charge of Welfare and later Research and Planning.

The statement noted that he has worked across several states, including Enugu, Delta, Kaduna, Anambra, Abia, Rivers, Benue, Kogi, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory.

The command expressed confidence in his leadership, stating that he is committed to strengthening professional policing, protecting lives and property, and enhancing collaboration with communities and security stakeholders to ensure lasting peace in the state.
