The Benue State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected former lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu, as its new state chairman at a peaceful congress held at the party secretariat. The event also featured an address by governorship aspirant Herman Hembe, signalling the party’s next phase of political engagement.

The ADC has been undergoing internal restructuring aimed at repositioning itself within Benue’s political space ahead of future elections, with leadership changes viewed as a key step toward strengthening unity and cohesion.

Okwu, a former representative of the Obi/Oju Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, emerged through a congress process described by party officials as orderly and well-organised.

The congress brought together delegates and stakeholders from across the state at the ADC secretariat. During the gathering, Hembe also addressed party members, although details of his remarks were not formally released.

Party members expressed optimism about the new leadership, saying it could enhance the party’s prospects in future elections. Political observers note that Okwu’s legislative background may influence the party’s strategic direction moving forward.

With new leadership in place, attention now shifts to how the ADC will consolidate its structure and position itself ahead of future elections in Benue State. Questions remain on how aspirants like Hembe will navigate the evolving political dynamics within the party.
