The Commissioner of Police for Imo State, Audu Garba Bosso, has ordered the deployment of tactical units and operational assets, in collaboration with other security agencies, to track down and apprehend those suspected to be behind the killing of the traditional ruler of Ochia Autonomous Community, Eze Paulinus Ekwueme, who was reportedly set ablaze by unidentified attackers.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, the incident occurred along Asa Awara Road in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.

He noted that the security deployment followed a distress call received by the Ohaji Police Division on April 10, 2026, reporting that armed assailants had attacked the monarch and killed him alongside five other yet-to-be-identified individuals.

Okoye added that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police swiftly mobilised and dispatched tactical teams to the scene, where operatives recovered the charred remains of the victims. The bodies were subsequently evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Owerri, for preservation and autopsy.

He further stated that a full-scale investigation has been launched, with intensified efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover any weapons in their possession. He also assured that enhanced security measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in the area and surrounding communities.

Following the development, the Commissioner of Police and his management team have embarked on an on-the-spot assessment and confidence-building visit to the Ochia Community to reassure residents of the Command’s resolve to restore calm and enhance sustained security presence in the affected area.

‎Extending condolences to the family of the late monarch and other deceased victims, the CP assured Imo residents that the Command remains fully committed to sustaining peace and security in the state, assuring that in no distant time, the perpetrators will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
