US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose “staggering” new tariffs on Chinese goods entering the United States if Beijing is found to be providing military support to Iran amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Speaking on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday, Trump said: “If we catch them doing that, they get a 50 per cent tariff, which is a staggering amount.”

The US president is expected to visit Beijing next month for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, following a delay in an earlier planned summit due to the ongoing war involving Iran.
