The Public Relations Officer of the Sector Command, Abdullahi Labaran, confirmed the figures in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, the first crash occurred on Friday, April 17, 2026, around 10:20pm along the Eastern Bypass at the General Muhammadu Buhari Interchange, Hotoro, Kano.
“The crash involved a DAF trailer with registration number MAF 284XA, loaded with animals, goods, and passengers. The vehicle was reportedly en route from Wudil Market, Kano State, heading to Asaba in Delta State when the unfortunate incident occurred.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to over-speeding while approaching the interchange flyover, leading to the crash.
“A total of 59 male adults were involved in the crash. Out of this number, 33 sustained varying degrees of injuries, 24 were rescued unhurt, while two persons lost their lives,” he said.
The statement added that the injured victims were evacuated to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, for treatment, while efforts were made to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow.
Labaran further stated that the second crash involved two vehicles, including another DAF trailer loaded with animals, goods, and passengers, which also departed Wudil Market en route Lagos State on Saturday.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver lost control due to over-speeding while approaching the T-Junction, resulting in a collision.
“A total of 30 male adults were involved in the crash, out of which 20 sustained varying degrees of injuries, eight were rescued unhurt, while two persons lost their lives.
“The injured victims were evacuated to Wudil General Hospital for medical attention, while the obstruction caused by the crash has been successfully cleared to restore free flow of traffic.”
The Sector Commander, Idris Mohammed Lawal, expressed concern over persistent violations of road safety regulations, particularly the dangerous practice of carrying passengers in trailers meant for goods and animals.
Lawal condemned over-speeding and overloading, stressing that such behaviours significantly increase the risk of fatal crashes. He urged drivers and transport operators to strictly adhere to traffic rules, avoid excessive speed, and desist from the illegal carriage of passengers in trailers.
